Red-bellied Woodpeckers

We didn't have an Elpis workshop this week but I did have a lot of activity at an Elpis suet feeder in my back yard. Our 3-hole fence post feeder got visits from Chickadees, White-breasted Nuthatchs, Downy Woodpeckers and this morning it was visited by a Red-bellied Woodpecker. He stayed up in the tree most of the morning with a few short visits to the suet feeder. I happened to snap a few pictures in the process.

Wood Lake Nature Center Workshop

This past Sunday we built birdfeeders (tall self feeders #102) at the Wood Lake Nature Center. We had 23 participants as part of a workshop/hike/education session. Kids and their parents hammered together 23 kits that produced some very fine looking birdfeeders. They all got a bag of sunflower seeds to get them started and they were excited to get home and hang them up and watch for birds.

Oakdale Home Improvement Fair

Again this year, we participated in the Oakdale Home Improvement Fair. We had a birdfeeder building booth and facilitated 50 youth and adults in building our birdfeeders. It was a great event with a lot of positive comments and big smiles from kids.

Earth Day

Elpis participated in the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation's Earth Day Celebration. We built birdfeeders out of recycled cedar fencing at 4 different parks. We were at Armatage Park, Beltrami Park, Kenny Park and Lynnhurst Park. Armatage Park was the most successful with youth and adults building 25 bird feeders.

Hello! Welcome to the Elpis Enterprises blog. We hope to journal our community workshops and post pictures of youth and adults building birdfeeders. We would also like workshop participants to post their experience and let us know what kinds of birds are coming to their feeders. We would love to see pictures of our feeders in action.

Please check back now and then to see our latest postings.
